TribLIVE: Recruiting Philly a layup for Penn State’s Chambers

Tony Carr

Bob Cohn in the Pittsburgh Tribune:

Here’s the surprise: Penn State men’s basketball is doing well in recruiting, too. Very well. With four top players committed, coach Patrick Chambers’ 2016 recruiting class is getting big raves, nationally ranked ninth by 247Sports (ahead of North Carolina), ninth by Scout.com (ahead of Kentucky) and 12th by Rivals.com. ESPN.com has three of the players in its Top 100.

After making recruiting inroads a year ago, Penn State has taken a giant leap into unexplored territory.

“It’s just not something that we’re used to seeing,” Rivals national recruiting analyst Eric Bossi said.

Even if the rankings dip when other programs start reeling in their commitments, “it doesn’t matter where they end up,” Bossi said. “This is a noticeable effort. Definitely, people are raising their eyebrows.”
