PHILADELPHIA – The first three years of Ryan Brooks’ career at Temple were largely marked by his play as a defender.After all, the Owls had Dionte Christmas, who spent all three of those years leading the Atlantic 10 in scoring before moving on after guiding the Owls to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.
This year, Brooks is tasked with also being more of a scoring threat; he came into Saturday leading the Owls with an average of 13.6 points, up slightly from his 10.6 points per game a year ago.
But he’s also still the Owls’ best perimeter defender – and that’s the way he likes it.
“Everything, for me,” Brooks said, “starts on defense.”
In Saturday’s 45-42 win over Penn State at the Liacouras Center, Brooks performed at both ends: He scored 19 points, but he also locked down on Talor Battle, Penn State’s leading scorer….
