Citizens Voice: Alexis picks PSU

The Wyoming Valley’s next big thing on the hardwood will be keeping his services in state and close to home.

Holy Redeemer’s Pete Alexis made a verbal commitment over the weekend to play basketball at Penn State.

Alexis, just a junior, made the decision to be a part of the Nittany Lions’ 2011 recruiting class 11 months before he can officially sign in November 2010.

“Penn State was the program that hit me,” said Alexis of making the decision at the start of his junior season. “It just hit me that this is where I wanted to go.”

And Alexis hasn’t wasted any time getting familiar with his future teammates.

Trey Burke, a point guard from Columbus, sent Alexis a text message congratulating him on his decision. Burke committed to the Class of 2011 in October.

Alexis, a 6-foot-11 center, is already looking forward to playing in Penn State’s up-tempo style of play.

“I’ve been told I run the floor well for a big guy and with the way they run the floor it’s a good fit,” he said….
