Cincinnati Enquirer: Power forward commits to Xavier

Penn State was reportedly interested in Drew Lavender. Might losing him have cost us another? – .ed

Sports digest:

“Jason Love needed only a couple of dinners to decide that Xavier University, one of the frontrunners for the 6-foot-8 power forward, was the place he wanted to play college basketball.

“Love, a senior from Abington Friends (Pa.) School, orally committed to Xavier University Sunday after his weekend visit to the school.

” ‘I felt it was the right time to make a decision,’ said Love, who also considered Penn State, Providence, Virginia and La Salle. ‘Going to dinner with the players, though, that pretty much sealed the deal.’

“Love went to dinner with Xavier freshman Derrick Brown on Friday night. Then on Saturday, he went out to dinner with Drew Lavender, a transfer from Oklahoma who is ineligible to play this season because of NCAA transfer rules.

“Love said he had not planned on committing to Xavier before he made the trip to Cincinnati. Once at XU, he began to change his mind. …”
