Centre Daily Times: Penn State throttles Lock Haven in exhibition

Centre Daily Times | 11/04/2005 | Penn State throttles Lock Haven in exhibition:

“UNIVERSITY PARK — Someone had to go and find Jamelle Cornley before he could make his first post-game media appearance.

“Penn State’s freshman forward went straight from the locker room to the South gym of the Bryce Jordan Center to practice his free-throw shooting.

“If Cornley’s 2-of-7 night at the line wasn’t encouraging, his desire to rectify it was, which might have been the story of the evening for Penn State. As their seven new faces battled nerves as much as the opponent, the Nittany Lions opened their exhibition season Thursday night at the Jordan Center by rolling over Lock Haven 89-43.

“Geary Claxton and newcomer David Jackson had 15 points apiece for Penn State, while Cornley shook off his early struggles at the foul line, including misses on his first four attempts, to finish with 14.

“‘We were very, very nervous,’ said Penn State men’s basketball coach Ed DeChellis. ‘Some guys got tired quickly because of the anxiety, so at the end of the day, I think that was the most important thing, just going out there in front of people with uniforms and officials and playing a little bit.’ …”
