“You never know what to expect from these holiday break games, and trying to figure out what to expect from Penn State’s men’s basketball team on a game-by-game basis during the last few seasons has been all but impossible.

“Today’s opponent, however, takes erratic to a whole new level.

“Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne enters the Bryce Jordan Center for the first time at 7:30 p.m. this evening to battle the 6-3 Nittany Lions. The Mastodons, 2-9 overall, own a one-point win over Southeast Missouri State and a 26-point win over Marygrove College. The nine losses have put on full display the inconsistency of rookie coach Dane Fife’s young team, which has just one senior on the roster. …”
