Centre Daily Times: Battered Nittany Lions host St. Francis

Centre Daily Times | 12/18/2005 | Battered Nittany Lions host St. Francis:

“Some days, Ed DeChellis just breathes a sigh of relief if his team makes it through a practice without another injury.

” ‘I don’t remember having all these injuries a year ago,’ the Penn State’s men’s basketball coach said dryly. ‘We might have had them, but I don’t remember them.’

“The Nittany Lions (4-3) open a four-game homestand at 2 p.m. today against St. Francis (2-6) in the Bryce Jordan Center with a limited supply of healthy bodies. The majority of those injuries, including the fractured left foot of Maxwell Dubois, have come during practice, leaving the Nittany Lions wondering if they’re just unlucky or if they should save their bodies more for game day.

” ‘Sometimes I think we overtrain,’ DeChellis said. ‘We do all this stuff in the spring, all this stuff in the summer, and somebody’s always getting banged up or nicked up.’ …”
