CDT: Lions take show on road

By Jeff Rice

There is only so much opponent scouting you can do at this point in the college basketball season. Which is fine, because that leaves more time to focus on exactly just what you might see from your own team.

Penn State, which begins a stretch of three games in four days this afternoon in the Charleston Classic at Carolina First Arena in Charleston, S.C., returned three starters from last season’s NIT championship team but, as was evident in the Nittany Lions’ first two games, has the components to play various kinds of basketball.

Three guards? Sure. Big front line? Penn State could do that, too. The Nittany Lions are ready to play at different paces and with different lineup combinations. This time of year is about finding which ones work best.

“Whatever the style may be, we’ve got to execute,” point guard Talor Battle said Wednesday. “But I’m interested to see how it plays out. Only time will tell.”

The Nittany Lions (2-0) will meet UNC-Wilmington (0-2) at 4 p.m. in a first-round matchup. The winner will face the winner of today’s game between Miami (Fla.) and Tulane at 3 p.m. Friday, while the losers of the two games will meet at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Exactly who will be the key to a Penn State win tonight remains a mystery.
