It was the type of play a veteran would make.
Freshman guard Tim Frazier sensed his defender was off balance, drove to the hoop and drew the fourth foul on Robert Morris’ Velton Jones, the team’s leading scorer at that point.
The foul took Jones out of the game for good — and the two converted free throws that ensued equated to his 19th point — which led all scorers in Monday’s 80-61 victory over the Colonials.
Frazier commanded the point for more than half of the second stanza and impressed the crowd and his team with his confidence, a stark contrast to his opening game.
“The first game last Friday was a good wakeup call, and I was able to get all the jitters out,” Frazier said. “Being able to run the team in practice and take reps over and over again [boosted my confidence]. I was ready [Monday] to come in and contribute.”
Coach Ed DeChellis said Frazier was frustrated over the weekend after struggling to contribute in the Penn game. But DeChellis subbed Frazier into the game five minutes into the first half in response to Robert Morris’ up-tempo style of play….
