Centre Daily Times: Nittany Lions pull away from Fort Wayne

Centre Daily Times | 12/29/2005 | Nittany Lions pull away from Fort Wayne:

“UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State forward Travis Parker said the solution to a pesky problem Wednesday was simple — to get rid of Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, the Nittany Lions had to get serious about playing some defense.

“Penn State did just that, holding IPFW to three points over the final five minutes to pull away to a 74-59 men’s basketball victory at the Bryce Jordan Center.

“Parker led the Nittany Lions (7-3), who had huge free throw shooting and rebounding margins, with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Geary Claxton added 15, including five down the stretch, as Penn State turned up the pressure to outscore the Mastodons 14-3.

” ‘When they were coming back in the game, we were relaxing on defense when we should have kept pushing it and going down their throats,’ Parker said. ‘Letting up on defense kept them in the game.’ …”
