December 9, 2019 Update:<\/p>\n

I paid a $422 invoice for the forum software this morning.<\/p>\n

We had $231.45 left in our account from last year.<\/p>\n

That means we were only $190.55 short.<\/p>\n

I’m accepting donations<\/a> to help defray the cost. As always:<\/p>\n

  1. Only what you can afford<\/li>\n
  2. No guarantee that the service will continue in perpetuity<\/li>\n
  3. Will have no (conscious) effect on forum post moderation \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In the past year I have made changes that have greatly reduced the cost of the main server, so I am picking that cost up. (The recent outage shows that we get what we pay for!)<\/p>\n

      From June 2017:<\/p>\n

      I knew I had to make some expensive changes last year when the forum software we were using became hopelessly out of date.<\/p>\n

      I didn’t ask for donations, though, because I wasn’t certain I could make the changes successfully, or that they would be embraced.<\/p>\n

      Now that we’ve made them, I’d like to see if contributors can help defray the cost.<\/p>\n

      The two-year expenses are $2,873.68 — just for hosting costs. All the work is a labor of love!<\/p>\n
