Sure, I'm an old-timer. BUT I firmly believe the "Build and sustain a program via the Cupcake Recipe" can still work today.
BUT BUT the Cupcake Recipe can NOT work in a vacuum. The coaches need to recruit well and coach well and the players need to play well.
PSU has had several very poor league seasons in a row.
IF PSU were 12-1 OCC and 8-10 or better in conference. PSU fan interest would rise! Maybe not sell outs but fan support would improve. Then even if that record doesn't get you into the N$C$A$A$ go to the NIT maybe play and win a couple of home games!
THEN stir up the Cupcake Recipe again for the next season. We know we have quality recruits coming into the system.
Players have not changed down thru the years. They still love success. They love wins. A big part of the Cupcake Recipe is that it helps players to grow their games. Remember..."Nothing succeeds like success.." Well, it's true! Modern college basketball seasons are very llllong marathons! I can't image playing a season of this length without much success!
Maybe the 2nd year PSU can go 9-9 or 10-8 in conference. Win a Bigten post season toury game or so. 22 or so wins would surely get you into the dance. And....yeah,....the fans will grow.
Seeing the success recruiting should grow. And so on , and so on!
