Good win, although Marshall was really out of it for some reason. Maybe we're just that much better than usual that we can handle teams like us.
Makes me wonder about their travel experience.

[/b]I meant the "Pisces". Amazing he amount of hoop talent in that movie. In all seriousness we did have the Pipers and Connie Hawkins (for a year).
Got ya, tundra. I do recall back in the 80's going to Penn State and having to deal with Steelers fans all the time. The only words in their vocabulary back then was "Four Super Bowls…Four Super Bowls" and they would say it incessantly.
I thought PC's response was perfect. Remember WHERE this interview took place.
Maybe this threat should be ONLY for PSU fans who have lived in Pittsburgh for many years. It's (Pittsburgh) a "unique" sporting town! Particularly the interest in ~itt hoops. Sure ~itt hoops have had good teams (off and on) back to the 60s. BUT the interest in the Howland/Dixon teams have passed the interest for prior teams by many many many degrees. I could probably name 20 or more non ~itt grads who I am not sure knew a basketball from a volleyball who became HUGE EXPERT ~itt hoop fans seemingly overnight!
WHY........................? Seriously non Pittburghers would have a hard time understanding!
Is Pittsburgh better than other areas? I'm NOT saying that!! It's just a UNIQUE area. Particularly in sports. The ~itt hoop explosion was /is similar to the Steeler explosion (in a smaller way) in the early 70's. Bandwagon jumping to the maximum!
P.S. This season is a very important season for the ~itt fan structure. Two years ago the team was poor. Last year....OK. Some fans are working there way to the end of the bandwagon and getting ready to jump off.
The mostly home game OOC Cupcake schedule has worked in a HUGE way for ~itt. BUT PSU fans seem very adverse to the issue. WHY.......... Well..........Ya gots to be from the Burgh to understand!
I hear ya, tundra. But due to not having an NBA franchise, Pitt hoops is the biggest and best game in town for any and all hoop junkies.
Unless of course you can locate the remnants of the Pittsburgh Pythons.
Tough, tough game to lose after playing so well the first 35 minutes. Frazier played one heck of a game as did Newbill, but we can't have nights like that from Ross Travis and expect to win. Also loved the way Geno played throughout, scrappy and had an edge to him for a freshmen. No doubt playing at home may have lit him up a little.I CAN'T BELIEVE I AM GOING TO BE A ~ITT APOLOGIST IN THIS POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT playing cupcake (almost all at home) OCC games greatly helped built ~itt's program in the Howland/Dixon era! IF you play in a power conference (which both ~itt and PSU do) a cupcake OCC schedule is a proven recipe for program building/maintaining success!! That is WHY I say it so often.
Loved the way Chambers handled his press conference afterwards. He doesn't accept moral victories anymore, we're playing for the W. In the long run, I think this team will be fine. And the way some other B1G teams have started this year, I feel pretty good about our conference schedule.
Also, am I the only one who thinks that Pitt's non-conference record at the Pete isn't really that impressive? They made it a point to mention their record a number of times during the game but fail to realize that Pitt has rarely played tough opponents in the non-conference under Jamie Dixon! Would really like to see this game continue, but not holding my breath. Chambers has shown he isn't afraid to schedule good teams, it's Pitt and Dixon that will need to make this happen. Dixon said after the game he would like to continue this game "but there are 50 other games he would like to continue.' Come one, man up and play somebody!!
[/b]There is definitely more buzz about this game tonight than any I can remember recently... probably since Pat took over.
I don't necessarily think it's fair, the way people are talking like we have a very good chance of winning tonight. I'm always afraid that people will decide to pay attention tonight, see us lose in a tough environment and just continue writing us off. Potential fans, that is.
I can't speak for the casual PSU fan in all sports who tuned into last night's game, neither can any of us on this board tbh, but I think there's a good chance the casual fans came away impressed by what I was reading last night and will at least be keeping their eye on the program going forward for this season.
''This game will definitely be that measuring stick that we are all talking about.Do I smell a "Rupp Arena 2000" redux?
This is the game folks. Bag this one and we could be looking at something really special coming our way.
I strongly agree with this. It echoes my feelings to a "T".
The team wins this they prove to themselves they can win the big games on the road or at home against the kind of top flight competition they will see week in and out in the B1G. I think a win here can springboard us to big things this year.
This will show what type of team we have and what we can expect from them this year.

Game 9 Preview: Penn State vs. Pittsburgh Panthers in Big Ten/ACC Challenge
I've got to agree with Eric's prediction.
Pitt/PSU should be on the schedule no mater the challenge. I'm actually a little disappointed it was apart of it this year, cause I like seeing us play different ACC teams. And I've always been a little selfish hoping we'd have a home and home playing Miami one of these times so I can see them down here in south FL.
