OT / Re: Jerry Sandusky - all relevant threads consolidated
« on: Yesterday at 10:12 AM »
For the life of me I can NOT understand why any NON alumni should have ANY rights to the PSU board.   ???
IF the state contributes money.......then they can have a watching NON voting appointed alumni member or two.

I think it's clear to most all that the present BOT needs retooled! Let's do it a correct, common sense and fair way.
"Because it's always been that way" should NOT effect a SMART decision.
I think 15 voting members would be a good sized BOT.

I believe PSU's voting BOT should be comprised of ONLY elected alumni!!
With the size of PSU's alumni  base we should not lack for qualified candidates!
The current events show that this IS an important job. Fair elections of qualified candidates can be done!!!

The VERY ironic thing about this whole situation is, we are regularly compared to Duke football (I believe it is even someone's signature on here).  In the same year that Duke football came from nowhere and became ranked, PSU basketball is coming from nowhere and at least receiving votes.

Maybe this Duke/PSU comparison has something to it ;-)

check out the records of Duke's OCC football opponents

Very nice win! Best performance so far.
GW did not make any threes so they were limited to their inside game where 11 of their shots were blocked.
PSU seemed to be in the "comfort zone" all day.
Confident relaxed play!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has the "Cupcake Recipe" worked for this team??   ;)

Your welcome,

Isn't this some kind of record for HC turnover. This will be the 5th HC going back to Wanny!!!

Yeah, pro sports are out of control.
Does not seem that way to me. To me it says management is making so much money they can commit to such a large guaranteed contract.
Sounds like a sign of a strong economy!!
I would just hope the money "trickles down" to all parties involved. Including the cities that build the stadiums.

Why would anyone choose Oregon State over Wisconsin?  Maybe his agent said OSU and he thought it was Ohio State.
Because things change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember the day when Oregon, Arizona and Arizona St were unknown programs!!!!!!
Also, Boise, TCU, Baylor, A & M, Ole Miss, Miss St, Kansas St, Louisville, Cincy, South Carolina..............need I go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus.......Wisc is.....well.....in Wisc.
Plus #2...............Also got to think $$$$$$$$$$$  may have something to do with it!

Chambers is 9-1, has the best recruiting class in school history signed and I'll bet you all the money in the world we win more than one game after January 3.

He will, but he'll at least be facing top 100 teams. We have faced one KenPom top 100 team (Charlotte) and lost that one despite them having 3 starters foul out. The only other one we face is George Washington. We just really can't take anything away from this OOC. I've been saying this for some time. Until we beat someone, we can't really take much stock in a 9-1 record. We will learn a lot about this team on Sunday imo.

I guess beating the teams you are supposed to be is some level of progress. But beating good teams is more of an indicator to me of progress than beating mediocre to very bad teams in close games (which performance in is quite often unpredictable from year to year).

The preseason OOC schedule has provided a GREAT GREAT learning growing experience for this team.
You can't play 30 something games against top 100 teams. We will play at least 19 BigTen11121314 games! Home and away. That is more than enough of a meat grinder schedule!!

Interesting game. I think the Dukes zone really changed the tempo of the game. Their big guys really worked hard and beat us off the boards.
BUT........bottom line we (again) figured out how to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I though D. Jack played very well. I thought he deserved more minutes. BUT, saving him (because of foul issues) worked very well. Good coaching move.
9-1 baby.......................... :)

Bucs managed to resign Liriano to 3 year, $39 million deal.  I like it a lot.

Good deal in today's market.
Fingers crossed about Liriano's future health!

If the OOC was the deciding factor, then why was it changed on the LAST WEEK of the season?  If the OOC came into play, then why was Ohio State behind TCU the prior week ?The ONLY THING that changed from one week to another were the results from THAT WEEK.  Tell me how that makes sense?

Exactly..................................

I don't think OOC schedules had ANYTHING to do with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with the Big12 Commissioner.

You mean the conference which DOES NOT have a big money TV event Championship Game DOES NOT have a team in the play-off??????
I'm telling ya .....I'm shocked  ;)   ;)     ;)

P.S. I'm thinking the Big 12 gets "in the program" next year!!!!

FWIW........Just because I am rejoicing being 8-1 does not mean I think we have a great/good team or have played particularly well.
My eyeballs made me think Charlotte had a clearly better team. We caught up in that game playing the "foul" game.
As for the other games.......................well most were VERY close. They "prove" nothing but the final score on that given day.
I basically believe the OOC is a "learning" experience. We are "learning." The players are learning.........the coaches are learning............the playing rotations are becoming more set.
It's BETTER for the players and the program and a heck of a lot more FUN for all (including fans) to win while your learning.

Enjoying 8-1,

Let's see..........NCAA selection and the words "fair" and/or "unfair"............huh.............NO COMMENT  ::)
As for expanding the play-offs - - - I think college football teams already play too many games!!

take 8-1 and embrace it.

Indeed!!!

We are very consistent! Every game is a nail biter.

WHY can't we put teams away??......or get "put away??........ I think these are some of the reasons.
- Team with the lead tends to play softer offense. (Maybe to burn more clock?)
- Team with the lead naturally tends to play softer defense (Maybe to try to avoid fouls?)
- Trailing teams tend to play offense more aggressively (what do we have to lose?)
- Refs tend to call more fouls on the team with the lead. Not quite an NBA conspiracy but just human nature. I noticed a couple of questionable calls last night.

Again.................let us enjoy 8-1!!!!!

FWIW Duquesne plays twice more at Consol this season. ~itt zero times.
Location wise Consol is a golf shot away from Duquesne property. ~itt is about 2 miles or so up the road.

I'm taking this as a "positive omen!!!!!!!!!!"

It's always preferable to have other options on offense.  I don't see that yet, but I think there is still time this season to develope some more trust and flow before we get into conference play.

I agree. Running an effective 1/2 court offense is not always easy.
Example: I watched much of the WVU-LSU game last night. Two pretty good teams. Most of the offense on both teams was transition. Then the most effective 1/2 courts sets were a guard beating his man off a dribble and driving to the basket.
