Penn State Basketball / Re: vs Iowa IGT
« on: Yesterday at 10:33 AM »
FWIW I thought sitting Garner for so long in the 1st half was a bad move. He was hot and the team was cookin!!!

Fine to think it was a bad move. Completely silly to think it cost us the game.

Never said it cost us the game. BUT it was ONE of the contributing factors! Many games have a natural ebb and flow. One team gets ahead........then the other team catches up. A back and forth!!
BUT I just thought this was a good point in the game/season to go for a "knockout!!" Again "what did we have to lose?"
Like another close game loss helps in anyway!?

My 2 cents:
Oh well..........same old, same old..................

The way I see it we are in the "what do we have to lose" section of the season. Chances should be taken!!!!!  Easily worthy of taking the risk of playing him with 2 fouls!

Good thread! Some interesting points. But all things considered it's hard for me to be optimistic toward The Long View!

I know this may sound strange, but this season only truly becomes lost if it buries our next recruiting class

I always think "opportunity" (early PT/chance to start/star) is the #1 recruiting draw! We clearly should be able to provide this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondary recruiting draws are visibility (we should be good with playing in a top league and BTN) and location. PSU has a great recruiting location!!  Close to NYC/Philly/Jersey/Baltimore/DC /suburban Maryland/Pittsburgh/rest of PA.

Sounds like the Big Ten is trying to keep us down longer.

Anyone watching, "Better Call Saul"? It's on A&E, Mondays at 9 pm. Lawyer from Breaking Bad, Bob Odenkirk, who also played the chief of police in "Fargo", which was great. He was terrific in that.  If you liked Breaking Bad, you'll like this. It's a pre-quel(sp).

I have not watched Breaking Bad BUT I liked the first three Better Call Saul.

My 2 cents:
Entertaining game. PSU played very hard.
Newbill was great. So were the 2 Wisc bigs!
Game ended 8:55 pm.
No terrible ref whistles....BUT then again few whistles in general. Especially against Wisc.
Watching Wisc play is like attending a basketball 101 class. Solid safe passes, solid catches, solid transfers to the basketball position. They work so hard at everything. Particularly their half court offensive sets. It was a great "get the job done" performance in frigid weather a longgg way from home!

One more thing - I'd love it if the league or NCAA would implement some kind of sanction - like a 1-game suspension for first time offenders - for the obvious flop by Smotrycz.  I know it won't happen, but I really hate that kind of crap in the worst way.

I like the idea.

Ospreys are fairly large, but I was kayaking in Isle Au Haut Bay several years ago and a bald eagle went after one in his territory and it was amazing how much bigger the eagle was

Wow....great viewing!!!!!

I have only see a couple of osprey. My best viewing was at a PA state park with a large lake outside of Altoona. On many of my SC trips I try to work in hiking/birding at a state park. On this day I was hiking with my binoculars around my neck when a couple of other birders asked me if I had seen the osprey flying above the lake. I had NOT. So, I headed back to the lake area. I was treated with seeing the osprey make 3 fishing dives into the lake. The dives were AMAZING!!!!!!  Starting straight downward from a high elevation the osprey developed great speed!! Loud
crash as he hit the water. The osprey emerged from the water a few seconds later. Without a fish. One of my best birding experiences!!

I think was a golden eagle
I have had a couple of very good Golden Eagle viewings!
The first was on a Vancouver rugged beach area. The eagle was sitting atop a tree on the edge of the beach.
The second was local to my home. I walk my dog early each morning. It's using only semi lighted. At the end of my road sits a large wooded area above a very large creek. I semi-regularly see Blue Heron at the creek.
This sighting had the eagle sitting on a horizontal pole on a telephone/utility pole. This horizontal pole was not very high off the ground so I had a long extended close viewing. We were eyeballing each other for a lengthy time. My dog is quite large so I didn't fear that the eagle would see him as prey!

The Pittsburgh (Hays) Bald Eagle Cam has been public for a couple of years.
The nest is above East Carson Street about approximately 5 miles pass the South Side restaurant area.
In person viewing is good from a city public trail across the road from the nest. Thing is parking in the local area is a problem. Our group has parked in the South Side and walked a couple of times. A nice spring/summer adventure that will leave you happy, tired and hungry!!
Hays eagles have an egg also!!

Looks to me like he traveled before the charge!!!   ;)

Sorry.....but MLB strike zone talk makes me  ;D

Strike outs at  all time high!?!?!  To me it seems like almost every batter at every at bat on every pitch swings for the fences.
Does the  two strike "choke up , shorten the swing and protect the plate" strategy still exist????

As crazy as it sounds, I don't think it's all that outrageous to think this team can make the BIG TEN Championship game.

Agree, league is wide open.

I honestly feel that a star was born last night in Boston.

Hope your correct!
An NBA PG must be able to beat his man off the dribble, get into the lane, then pass off.  All strengths of Tim!
With time, many players improve their outside shot!

Just watched replay.
FWIW I thought Newbill was CLEARLY fouled. Defender took the head fake and jumped forward!  Sure DJ moved forward BUT that is OK. Shooters need NOT stay vertical. The "jump shooter" should always be protected!!
I counted a 4 count (one one thousand one....one one thousand two....) on the Travis throw in violation.  Whistle blew JUST as I counted 4!!

Well....The downside of Cupcake Man's  8) " a win is a win" theory..........is that " a loss is a loss!"
Purdue is 7-3!!!!!  We are 2-8.
Question:  Are they really "better" than us????

Great to be back!!
Cupcake Man  8)

Answer:   They play better. That is "well enough to win."  So the answer is:  Yes, by a large margin.
