I would not be surprised if Spurs are the team ready to take advantage of one of last year's top four slipping.

Top has sure looked vulnerable so far.  Swansea really took it to Chelsea. Man U and Spurs did not inspire me. Arsenal - Yikes!!
I would like to see more flexibility at the top this year. It would make for a more entertaining season!  As the EPL TV money keeps getting bigger maybe we will have more balance.

How do you guys have enough time in your lives to follow soccer too?  I can barely keep up with PSU and kinda following along with NFL, MLB, etc.  I've given up trying to follow much besides PSU sports.  You guys seem to know stuff going on in other countries like it's your hometown team.  I envy you guys.

For me it's PSU hoops, football and wrestling then a little of the other PSU teams. Then I follow Liverpool and somewhat the rest of the EPL (starting to like Leicester) and the Champions League. Then I follow the Pirates. Like to watch golf, but don't buy into the hype.

NOT giving much attention to the NFL, NBA, NHL, tennis, rest of MLB (except checking daily boxscore for news on my favorite player), rest of the NCAA and   motor sports helps with time management.

P.S. Being retired helps a great deal!  Also being able to DVR sports events is wonderful!!

Couple of thoughts:
I don't like these "exempt" tournaments  - Why make a rule if so many are "allowed"  exemptions??
7-4-2    home-away-neutral     I would like to see more imbalance. Maybe next year would be better.
I'm OK with the 2 Rec Hall games. I would have liked more practice time on the Rec Hall Court! We play GW away 2 nights before our first Rec Hall game
Still kind of undecided on the schedule. I think we need several home cupcakes!!

Don't be silly. These are the home and home series with schools like Pitt. We should have these games anyway.

What happens AFTER this 4 game series ends! I do NOT think continuing the series would be a good idea.
IF the league goes to a 9 game conference schedule the HC should have maximum scheduling flexibility! No silly Big 5 requirement!!
The HC should be able to schedule 3 home cupcakes  :D if he thinks it's in the best interest of his team!!

Is not the league going to a 9 game conference schedule??
I think the Big 5 non conference requirement is out of line!!!

I do football too.......,

P.S. Bottom dwelling Big 5 schools will now be in great demand and will be able to name their price!

ANOTHER ANOTHER thing. Maybe someone can call MBL and get an answer.
Also, when you have them on the phone ask actually WHAT is the correct strike zone????
Ask them if the strike in the rule book is the "correct" and "utilized" strike zone.  If not...ask them WHY and WHAT they are going to do about it!

ANOTHER thing:
http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/past/ForbesField.htm

Check out photos of old Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. Very possible to hit balls off the SIDE (NOT the top) of the left field scoreboard, sides of the clock on the scoreboard and off the sides of the light towers with the balls bouncing over the fence. These were Home Runs!

Not trying to be a wise guy BUT the language ...... "Very top of the fence"..........sounds odd to me. ...if a ball hits JUST on the top but not the VERY top it's just a double?
How about "Really the top", "Tip top", "Really really the top" , "For sure the top"  , Pinnacle of the fence.........well.............you get the drift!!!!!!!!! Are these HRs????
I guess "not so much the top", "almost the top", "pretty high up", "kind of the top" may just be 2 bases!!!
Just saying the "top" of anything can be subjective!

Fact is I understand the "concept" of the ruling I just think the ruling stinks. Now it looks like MLB is defending it!  Two wrongs but must make a very tip top
 right   ;)     ;)      ;)

ONE MORE THING.  A few feet to the right (maybe 6 feet)  the same height of the wall the ball hit was the TOP.  What if the ball hit 1 inch (not 6 feet) away from the bullpen section and bounces in the same direction?
I just think the league has opened a silly can of worms!!

SO.........................MLB umps now judge "funny" bounces????   Are MLB umps now to outlaw balls from bouncing sideways!
The ball hit the wall...............and bounced at about a 20 degree angle OVER the wall on it's own. If it did it once it will do it again. Are all balls supposed to bounce at 90 degrees????  A batted baseball has a lot of spin and bounce in many different ways!! But I guess some bounces are now illegal!!!

Errors happen, but the baserunning blunders and overall poor fundamentals are costing them games.

Agreed!

Marte's overturned homer!  :o

http://m.pirates.mlb.com/news/article/137822024/starling-martes-home-run-overturned-to-double

Looks to me like a clearly incorrect judgment!!! Interested in league's action...........
But, of course WHAT can they do????
Give Pirates an extra draft choice????

WVU was fun to watch last season. Intense full court pressure defense!!

I thought they were the dirt worst and disagree that they were any fun to watch last year. It was like watching a football team try to play basketball, they were trying to be a bunch of bullies on the floor. They fouled at an alarmingly high rate (They were dead last in D1 with the highest Defensive FTA/FGA in the nation) and the quality of games they played just weren't there. Everything was so stop start, there's a reason they gave up so many points. I hope the era of coaches like Huggins comes to an end soon, cannot stand him even in the slightest.

But his argument that we're going to see less scoring when there will be more possessions per game is most likely going to be wrong. The NBA talk of his is just incorrect, if he thinks NBA teams are struggling getting shots up v. a 24 second shot clock, then he's wrong, just like if he thinks driving will be precluded by the new arc under the basket, he's wrong too.

The 30 second shot clock is going to up the tempo and create more possessions per game. That alone will create more scoring opportunities and almost definitely more points.

I've never been a big fan of Huggins and I go back to his playing days!
BUT, I did enjoy watching last year's team. They were on TV in Pgh fairly often last year. BUT the Kentucky game was a mismatch and not enjoyable hoops.
WVU had several quality small guards and I liked their big guy (Williams.) What I liked best was their hustle. Those guards guarded CLOSE.  Full court. That does lead to fouls. I don't remember them being a very good outside shooting team. I remember many drives to the basket and pull up jumpers.
In the past WVU has sent players to the Pgh summer league. The WVU kids seemed to go to extreme lengths to play team (ball sharing) basketball.

In general, the present college game has a romance with the 3 point shot. I think with the shorter shot clock we will see a large increase of extreme wild and lengthy fast shots. This is not basketball I enjoy watching!

P.S. Is Staten playing in the NBA summer league? How is he doing?
P.S. #2  Another team I usually enjoy watching is VCU! Maybe I just like defensive hustle and pressure! BUT I never enjoyed watching Louisville and their press. Funny, huh.
